Punishments for Witchcraft
The Witch Trials
Witches in the 16th century in Europe were punished by tying the accused persons and drowning them in water. Some traditional torture devices such as thumbscrews, leg vices, whipping stocks with iron spikes and strappados were also used. Execution by burning was also a common method of punishment until the late 18th century.
